How Vermont Leads the Nation in Environmentalism

By Hannah Tapyrik, GreenSavingSmart’s Social Media and Market Research Intern

The efforts of Vermonters have paid off: Vermont is consistently ranked as the greenest state in the country. With its beautiful landscape, it’s no wonder Vermonters work hard to keep the Green Mountain State green! So, what steps has Vermont taken to earn this position?

Vermont owes much of its success to the clean energy initiatives created to protect its breathtaking natural environment. For instance, Vermont recently implemented a conservation law that aims to conserve 30% of the state’s land area by 2030 and 50% by 2050. In another current example, Vermont passed the Affordable Heat Act. This act introduces a Clean Heat Standard that incentivizes Vermonters to deliver clean heat options that cut costs (sounds like the advice our coaches give!). Vermont’s statewide prioritization of the environment continues to have a widespread impact.

On a more local level, various organizations work to keep the state green. In fact, GreenSavingSmart’s partners all contribute to achieving climate and energy justice. From weatherization to ride services, Vermont’s community organizations are effective at combining environmentalism with everyday needs.

Of course, this is all possible through the actions of each individual Vermonter. Your activism is part of a larger push to protect the Earth and its resources.
